Quality Agusta Helicopters.

Some History -- In 1952 Agusta became involved with building helicopters under licence from Bell soon followed by Sikorsky, Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. In 1963, during the industrialisation programme in Southern Italy, Agusta formed Elicotteri Meridionali. 1967 saw the opening of the Frosinone factory for the purpose of overhauling helicopters for the armed services and the development of the agusta EMA124, which was based on the agusta-Bell 47. This facility is now known as Sesto Calende (VA).

During the 1970s Agusta achieved their biggest success with the A109. This military and commercial twin turbine helicopter proved so popular that many variants are still in production today. Following the A109 success Agusta started to collaborating with Britain, France, Germany and the Netherlands in many projects. In 1981 Agusta and Westland of Britain started the EH101 project for the British and Italian Royal Navy. In 1985 the NHI NH90 was the result of a collaborative effort with France, Germany and the Netherlands. The A109 Power, an improved version of the A109 (1994). and a single engined design called the A119 (Koala) based on the A109 was made their appearance during the 1990s In 1998 Agusta formed a joint venture with Bell Helicopter Textron called the Bell/Agusta Aerospace Company to develop the Bell/Agusta AB139 helicopter together with the BA609 tilt-rotor aircraft. Bell later withdrew from the AB139 project which is now known as the AW139.

In July 2000 Finmeccanica and GKN plc came to an agreement to merge their own helicopter subsidiaries (Agusta and GKN-Westland Helicopters), forming AgustaWestland.
